The usual construction drama...
A few photos of the remodel project in various stages of near-completion. In some of them, the interior doors, new stairs & trim are not yet installed, but I never got around to taking better photos. We received the official Certificate of Occupancy on the 29th, a belated holiday present.
Doors, windows and all trim painted downstairs. Stair treads sanded and given 2 coats of sanding sealer and 3 coats of varnish. Doors for vanity base fabricated, painted and installed. No pictures taken.
No major activity besides completely clearing out the downstairs. Epoxy floor coating ordered and received, and awaiting time to be applied.
Finally, the epoxy floor coating gets applied. 3 days of hard work cleaning and prepping the concrete, then 2 easy days spreading the 2 coats of epoxy. That’s my friend Paul helping out.
SawStop table saw and DeWalt scroll saw, and dust collector hookup. The last thumbnail is a link to a 10-second film of the saw performing the “nickel” text. Pretty smooth!
Friends were having their kitchen remodeled and gave us some of the old cabinets. With a little rework and a coat of paint they are perfect for the shop. And yes, the walls have been painted! I did the trim work, prep, caulk and priming of the masonry, and my good friend Paul did a great job on the walls and final trim coat.
A wooden model of a Geneva Wheel I made to give to my dad for Christmas. The Geneva wheel and locking disk are kiaat, the base is maple, the drive-pin arm and spacer are oak, as are the drive pin, axles and crank handle, and the retaining pins are poplar. From plans in the excellent book “Making Mechanical Marvels in Wood” by Raymond Levy. It’s out of print but well worth tracking down. The last thumbnail is a link to a short video of the model in operation.
A few general photos of the shop/practice area as of the end of December.
